Winter Pests and Current Invasions

Even though we do pest control all throughout the year some seasons are worse than others. Different pests affect homes at different times, but spring and summer are typically the worst times of year for generic pests, with only a few pests causing problems in fall.

Winter, however, is usually considered a “down time” for pests. That’s not to say that there are no pests at all. Rather, it is that that there are fewer of them, and they invade at a slower rate.

Still, it’s important to remember that “fewer pests” is not the same thing as “no pests.”

You May Have Pests Already

One of the challenges that you may face this time of year is that, if you currently have pest infestations, they’re extremely likely to continue. Pests that find themselves in warm environments (like your home) do not feel the need to hibernate, and may continue to breed and spread.

This can occur without you knowing, and may continue for a long time before you even realize there is a problem. Many pests, especially those that are known as “invaders,” are amazing at hiding and will live and breed for days, months, even years before you notice there is a problem.

Pests Do Not Stop

Similarly, while pest populations do decrease in winter, winter is also a time when many insects, rats, and mice try to find shelter from the cold, rain, and snow. That forces them onto your property. Though there may be fewer pests, the ones still alive may actually be more likely to need to find a way into your home in order to survive, and that can also lead to a pest invasion if the problem is prevented or dealt with.
